Clint Malarchuk – Mental Health Advocate, Former NHL Goaltender, and Professional Speaker
Clint Malarchuk, a native of Grande Prairie, Alberta, is a former NHL goaltender who played for the Quebec Nordiques, Washington Capitals, and Buffalo Sabres, as well as the Las Vegas Thunder in the IHL. Known for his resilience on and off the ice, he was named to the 1987 NHL All-Star Team and was the 1989 recipient of the Punch Imlach Award for leadership and dedication to the game.
Following his playing career, Clint transitioned into coaching, serving as the head coach of the Las Vegas Thunder and Idaho Steelheads before becoming a goaltending coach for several NHL teams, including the Florida Panthers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Atlanta Thrashers, and Calgary Flames.
In 2008, after surviving a suicide attempt, Clint embarked on a profound journey of healing. Through recovery, he overcame self-medication with alcohol and dedicated himself to mental health advocacy, openly sharing his experiences with OCD, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and addiction. His powerful memoir, A Matter of Inches: How I Survived in the Crease and Beyond (2014), has become a vital tool in raising awareness for mental health.
Today, Clint is a renowned professional speaker and co-founder and president of the Ranch Teammates for Life Healing Center in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. His mission is to break the stigma around mental health and addiction, offering hope and support to those in need.
